Basic Commands in Foxpro for DOS

The following are the most frequently used commands in the Foxpro command window.

MODIFY COMMAND or MODI COMM
Open a program or text file for editing. To create or open a program say for example TEST, type MODI COMM TEST in the Command Window and press Enter key.

DO
Run a program. A program file has an extension of PRG in its filename (e.g. SAMPLE.PRG). To run SAMPLE.PRG, type DO SAMPLE in the Command Window and press the Enter key.

USE
Open a table. A table in Foxpro has an extension of DBF in its filename (e.g. SAMPLE.DBF). To open SAMPLE.DBF, type USE SAMPLE in the Command Window and press the Enter key.

BROWSE or BROW
View/Edit the content of a table. When you open the table using the USE command, use BROWSE to display or edit the content of a table.

SET FILTER TO or SET FILT TO
Specify which records are to be shown or accessible.

GO TOP
Go to the first record of a table

GO BOTTOM or GO BOTT
Go to the last record of a table

MODIFY STRUCTURE or MODI STRU
Modify the fields of a table

DELETE or DELE
Mark the record(s) for deletion

PACK
Delete all marked records for deletion

ZAP
Delete all records

REPLACE or REPL
Update the table

APPEND FROM or APPE FROM
Add records to the end of a table from another table

COUNT or COUN
Count the number of records of a table

COPY TO
Copy a table to another file

CREATE or CREA
Create new table

CLEAR or CLEA
Clear the screen

QUIT
Quit Foxpro
